Tiffin Girls scores, Designated Area and Inner Area
For 2027 entry, final scoring is 60% English and 40% maths. In component terms that is Stage 2 English 60%, Stage 2 maths 30% and Stage 1 maths 10%. Stage 1 English still affects progression. The Inner Area uses named wards; the wider Designated Area uses postal districts. Neither is the Boys’ 10km rule.

Does Stage 1 maths count?

Yes. The parent summary splits the maths contribution between Stage 2 and Stage 1 in a 3:1 ratio. Three quarters of 40% is 30%; one quarter is 10%. These weights apply to comparable standardised components, not raw practice percentages.
Worked example Understand the smaller contribution
Original teaching example. In an illustrative weighted index, Stage 1 maths rises by 10 comparable points and the other components stay fixed. How much does the index rise?
Why this works: 10 × 0.10 = 1. This demonstrates the weighting only.
Why the tempting route fails: Ten extra correct answers cannot be substituted for ten standardised points. We cannot calculate an official score, rank or offer probability from this exercise.
A postcode is not a ward

Use sections 5.3 and 5.4 of the policy to check the exact Inner Area wards and Designated Area postal districts. An address can be inside the Designated Area without being inside the Inner Area. Read the permanent-address rules as well as the list of areas.
- Record the exact entry-year policy you checked.

The Inner Area wards are Berrylands; Canbury Gardens; Coombe Hill; Coombe Vale; Green Lane & St James; Kingston Gate; Kingston Town; New Malden Village; Norbiton; St Mark’s & Seething Wells; Surbiton Hill; Tudor; and Ham, Petersham and Richmond Riverside. A postal district alone does not establish that an address falls within one of these wards.
Priority and leeway are not bonus marks

The policy prioritises particular looked-after and disadvantaged applicants and specifies conditions for area-based allocation. Its leeway rules adjust thresholds for eligible categories; they do not add a blanket percentage to each child’s individual marks. Use the full category and evidence requirements before deciding that a rule applies.

- All places in 2024 to 2026 went to girls living in the Designated Area or Inner Area.
- Area figures use the address given when registering for the tests (or updated during testing), not necessarily the council application address.
- The school publishes no lowest mark offered and asks that the figures are not used for comparisons, because the policy and cohort change each year.

Questions parents ask
What is the Tiffin Girls cut-off score?
The school does not publish one. Its admissions information for 2024 to 2026 gives the numbers tested in each group and says every place went to girls in the Designated or Inner Area, but it gives no lowest mark offered. Its policy defines a cut-off score, the lowest combined mark offered a place by the end of Year 7, but does not publish the number.
When do Tiffin Girls parents get the Stage 2 result?
Around 14 October you learn whether your daughter is invited to Stage Two, with no scores. On 2 March 2027 the school emails Stage Two results only to girls held on the waiting list. Girls offered Tiffin Girls' or a higher preference school do not receive results.
How does the Tiffin Girls waiting list work?
It runs from 1 March 2027 to the end of the 2027 to 2028 school year. Girls are ranked by combined mark, Designated Area girls first and then girls outside it, with ties settled by the policy's tie-break order. Girls offered a higher preference school are not added unless their parents ask.
